WHAT IS SPIRITUAL DIRECTION?

Spiritual Direction is “help given by one Christian to another which enables that person to pay attention to God’s personal communication to him or her, to respond to this personally communicating God, to grow in intimacy with this God, and to live out the consequences of the relationship.”
(William A. Barry and William J. Connolly, The Practice of Spiritual Direction)

 > Spiritual direction focuses on religious experience. It is concerned with a person’s actual experience of a relationship with God.

> The real spiritual director is God who is always leading the person to deeper faith and more generous service.

> God touches the human heart. The role of the spiritual director is to facilitate the directee’s finding of God in all of life.

INDIVIDUAL SPIRITUAL DIRECTION

The Center can arrange for you to meet with a spiritual director on a weekly, monthly or as needed basis. Depending on your means a free will offering would be appreciated. At the Center there are Board members from various Christian traditions who have a wealth of experience. Though the Ignatian tradition is foremost, application of the Carmelite, Benedictine and eastern traditions are also offered.

Initially, you would speak to a staff member and be offered several names that might be a good match for you. You may choose to interview with all of the names given to you before you decide who would suit you best. All directors are trained and experienced in spiritual direction.
